Individual therapy with Alan O'Brien

Integrative psychotherapy for adults working through anxiety, relationship difficulties, loss, life transitions, addiction, or a sense that something needs to change.

Alan O'Brien

About Alan

Alan spent over fifteen years working in healthcare before training in counselling and psychotherapy. His years in healthcare, alongside his own life experience, shaped a belief that people don't heal because they're told the right thing; they heal because someone stays with them while they find it out for themselves.

That belief remains at the heart of how Alan works. Grounded in person-centred values, therapy is shaped around each individual and what they bring, rather than following a predetermined path.

He approaches therapy with curiosity, openness and a willingness to explore what lies beneath the surface — including old patterns and the parts of ourselves we may have learned to hide, reject or push aside.

Outside of one-to-one sessions, Alan co-runs Croí Connections' group retreats with his wife Helen, bringing the same whole-person, no-judgement approach to group settings.

Who this is for

People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. You don't need a crisis to justify being here.

Anxiety, Shame & Overwhelm

When your mind won't settle, emotions feel difficult to manage, or shame and self-doubt leave you feeling stuck or disconnected from yourself.

Relationships, Loss & Change

Difficulties in relationships, grief, endings and significant changes in life can leave us questioning ourselves, our relationships and what comes next.

Addiction & Deeper Patterns

Addiction can become a way of coping with difficult feelings or experiences. Therapy offers a space to explore not only the addiction itself, but also the experiences, relationships and patterns that may be connected to it.

How sessions work

Therapy with Alan is person-centred, which means the direction of each session is led by you, not a fixed programme.

First Session

A relaxed conversation to understand what's brought you here and whether we're a good fit to work together.

How Therapy Works

Usually weekly or fortnightly, in person in County Meath or online. Some people come for a few sessions around one issue; others stay for longer-term work.

Whole Person, No Judgement

Mind, body, spirit and soul are treated as connected — and whatever you bring into the room is met with openness, curiosity and without judgement.
